Gotta Stitch Em All Into Viridian Forest

Deep into Viridian Forest lies some of the most intricate amigurumi yet. Once you’ve crept past Bug Catcher’s string shots, you’re left with some delightful bug pokémon to stitch. Let’s see if you can make it through the dark forest without being stung by a Beedrill!

#10 – Caterpie

Perhaps the symbol of the bug type, Caterpie was the first pokémon caught in the animé two decades ago. Catching this adorable pokémon is particularly nostalgic, and was fully evolved by level 10 making it a great early game catch. Now your adventure into pokémon amigurumi has begun, Caterpie is a great way to challenge your skills.

#11 – Metapod

A stumbling block on your journey, it’s a hard time winning this pokémon around. Less detail than the Caterpie, some might find Metapod a little more straightforward than its predecessor. Don’t get too comfortable though, it’s hard nature will leave you stumped. If you do make it until the end, your biggest challenge is just coming.

#12 – Butterfree

Butterfree will likely be the first fully-evolved pokémon you use in Kanto. This pattern is beautiful and also allows a little more freedom for creative expression. The wings change region to region, particularly in the Orange Archipelago where they had a red marking near the lower tip.

#13 – Weedle

Weedle has a sharp poison sting attack and will leave the inexperienced crocheter with more problems than they wanted. If you’re ready to add this to your stitchédex then get ready for a sharp challenge, with no antidote for mistakes. Once you’ve tamed this little bug, the journey only becomes more noxious.

#14 – Kakuna

The cocoon pokémon is completely immobile and defends itself bu continually hardening its outer-shell. Kakuna might seem like the easiest stitch yet, however, there are some tiny details here and there that might throw even the most experienced crocheter off.

#15 – Beedrill

After that bout with little Weedle, did you think it would come to this? What a terrible misfortune you must now face, a venomous sting by a Beedrill will leave you noxious for days. Luckily, you’ve been stitching your way towards this moment, and with your trusty HiyaHiya crochet hook, you’re ready to face the poison bee pokémon.

#16 – Pidgey

After stitching your way through the numerous bug pokémon in Veridian Forest, you’re faced with something a little bigger and little more ferocious. On approach it will kick sand towards your eyes, so standing at a safe distance is a must. Once stitched, Pidgey will take your amigurumi to new heights!

#17 – Pidgeotto

Now you’ve tackled your first bird, its evolution offers a bigger test. Pidgeotto has a few more colours and extra details that produce a nice step-up from Pidgey. The extra flamboyance will delight all pokémon fans and bring back memories to early episodes of the animé.

#18 – Pidgeot

Pidgeot is the iconic flying-type pokémon, a symbol of its power and grace in battle. This is a huge battle for any crocheter, but one which can be won with the right technique. Not too dissimilar from Pidgeotto, with just a larger and more detailed crest, with slightly different tones on the colour scheme. Stitch this bird pokémon and your amigurumi still stay on a high!

#19 – Rattata

There’s not many places on the Kanto map where you won’t run into this little menace. A few hype fangs here and there and you’ll start feeling the pressure of tackling this pattern. Keep your composure and Rattata will be stitched in no time.

#20 – Raticate

Bigger teeth and more ferocity, Raticate comes with a gnawing challenge. An entire change of posture, it is a completely unique experience to its predecessor. There’s more detail to the face but less work around the limbs and tail. Once you’ve tamed the mouse pokémon, Veridian Forest nears its end and you’re ready to tackle your first gym!
